Odzun Holy Mariam Astvatsatin Church
Holy Mariam Astvatsatsin Church of Odzun is a 6th–7th century Armenian basilica located in Lori Province. Known for its pink stone, central dome, and detailed carvings, it is one of Armenia’s oldest and most significant early Christian churches. Holy Mariam Astvatsatsin Church of Odzun is a remarkable 6th–7th century Armenian basilica located in the village of Odzun, Lori Province. Built with distinctive pink tufa stone, the church features a central dome, elegant arcades, and detailed bas-relief carvings that reflect the artistry of early Christian Armenia. It holds a special place in the country’s spiritual and architectural heritage, standing as one of the earliest surviving domed basilicas in the region.
From 2012 to 2017, the church underwent a full-scale restoration led by LEVGUK. The company carried out meticulous work to strengthen the structure, restore damaged stonework, and preserve its original design elements. Thanks to LEVGUK’s efforts, the church was brought back to its former glory while maintaining historical authenticity, ensuring that future generations can continue to appreciate this cultural treasure.
